What won the race: Cody Laney of Torrance, Calif., led all but the first lap of Saturday's West Coast Shootout event at Bakersfield Speedway for a $2,000 payday. Laney went under Nick Bartels on the second lap and grabbed his first Late Model victory of the season.
Quotable: “Nick showed me his nose a couple of times but I just hit my marks and didn’t mess up," the 19-year-old Laney told the Bakersfield Californian.
Key notes: Bartels captured his first series victory and first Late Model triumph of 2015. ... The day following the event, long-time announcer Mike Moshier died. The 21-year announcer was diagnosed with bone cancer this summer and last announced on Aug. 15.
