David Smith leads the pack early in Sunday's 50-lap main event.
What won the race: David Smith of Inman, S.C., led all 50 laps of Sunday's RockAuto.com Winter Shootout event on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Golden Isles Speedway, earning $3,000 for his Super Bowl of Racing victory. Cale Conley finished second followed by Pearson Lee Williams in a race postponed to Sunday by Saturday evening rain.
Quotable: “Getting the pole last night was the key to winning this race, but I knew somebody was with me during the second half of the race,” Smith said. “Cale is a good racer and I knew he wouldn’t do anything to get us both in trouble. He really made me hit my marks and cover the bottom."
Key notes: Smith skipped hot laps to save the only four good tires he had for the main event. ... Ryan King used the high side in his 13-position charge to fourth. ... Several drivers scratched from the feature lineup: Jason Fitzgerald, Joshua Bishop, Grant Garrison, Mallory Harvey, Donnie Bazemore, Frank Wilson and Damon Flowers.
On the move: Cale Conley started seventh and finished second; Ryan King rallied from 17th to fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Smith's Barry Wright Chassis carried no major sponsors.
Points chase: Leaving Golden Isles, Chase Edge of LaFayette, Ala., leads NeSmith's RockAuto.com Winter Shootout points with 450 followed by Cale Conley (356) and Ryan King (348).
