Michael Page led all 50 laps at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: Gaining a measure of redemption after a disqualification the previous weekend, Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., led all 50 laps Saturday at Talladega Short Track for a $2,500 NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series victory, his first on the tour. Points leader Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., was 0.155 seconds behind as the runner-up.
Quotable: “This is the best race car I’ve ever driven because we’ve raced it three times and won all three races,” Page said. “We’re going to take it to the next NeSmith race in Cochran, Ga., and see if we can make it 4-for-4! We were on the bottom groove all night long, and my brother signaled me I had a big lead. I tried to just take it easy in that lapped traffic at the end, but I knew Cory was coming fast, so I tried the outside and was able to put a couple of lapped cars between myself and Cory.”
Key notes: On April 23, Page crossed the line first in NeSmith's Chevy Series at Whynot Motorsports Park near Meridian, Miss., but two days later was stripped of the victory because his CT 525 engine was equipped with unapproved valve springs. ... The race ran caution-free and took 13 minutes. ... Twelve starters completed 50 laps. ... Friday's NeSmith action was rained out during Talladega's NASCAR weekend.
On the move: Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., started 15th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Page's No. 18 is sponsored by M&M Truck and Trailer Repair, C&S Auto Electric and T&T Trucking.
Points chase: Runner-up Cory Hedgecock extended his series points lead. He's got 296 points to lead Scott Dedwylder (274) and Chase Edge (264).
