Jesse Stovall takes the checkers on Oskaloosa's big half-mile.
What won the race: Polesitter Jesse Stovall of Billings, Mo., led all 30 laps Thursday at Southern Iowa Speedway to grab his 16th career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory, earning $3,000 at the half-mile fairgrounds oval.
Quotable: "I'm usually not good on these big racetracks," Stovall said. "I told my crew chief Tommy Rogers don't expect much in the heat race and then we were able to go out and do what we did tonight. It was just a really good hot rod to sit in all night."
Key notes: Stovall captured his first special-event victory of the season just five days after his third-place finish in the $30,000-to-win 24th annual Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. ... Osky's race was slowed by two caution flags. ... Stovall survived a late race charge from Jordan Yaggy. ... Dave Eckrich was running fifth before slowing on lap 17. ...The event opened a three-race weekend for MLRA who will also be in action at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, on Friday and then Randolph County in Moberly, Mo., on Saturday.
On the move: Consolation race winner Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Stovall's No. 00 has a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and is sponsored by Malvern Trust & Savings Bank, Midwest Sheet Metal, Rushin Towing, Swafford's Service and Hoosier Racing Tire.
Points chase: With his vicotry, Stovall unofficially moves into the MLRA points lead over Terry Phillips and Jason Papich.
