What won the race: Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., notched his second Southern All Star victory of the season with a $4,444 payday in Saturday night's 44-lap Roscoe Smith Shootout. Roberts used a slide-job to grab the lead from reigning series champion Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., on lap 10 and went on to take the checkered flag over Michael Page of Winston, Ga., and Hickman.
Key notes: Page overtook Hickman for second near the race's halfway point but couldn't challenge Roberts in the caution-free feature. ... The inaugural Roscoe Smith Shootout honored the father of veteran driver Clint Smith, a long-time Georgia racer and car builder. ... Clint Smith pulled triple-duty at Senoia, finishing sixth in his father's race; second to Page in the Limited Late Model feature (snapping his six-race win streak); and 13th in the Crate Late Model headliner, which he led until losing power on lap 13 and handing the top spot to Hickman. ... Hickman's Crate Late Model win came after his started last (14th) because he missed the previous night's qualifying.
Winner's sponsors: Roberts's Jim and Ann Cushman-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Custom Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Cushman Paint & Body, Hoosier Racing Tire, M&S Concrete, Schaeffer Oil, Starrette Trucking and VP Racing Fuels.
Points chase: Three-time and reigning SAS champ Riley Hickman entered the event with 664 points to lead Brad Skinner (600).
