Johnny Pursley won his fourth straight start with a Modoc victory.
What won the race: Johnny Pursley of Clover, S.C., continued his late-summer surge Saturday night, coming out on top of a battle for the lead with Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., to capture the Ultimate Super Late Model Series feature at Modoc Raceway. Pursley is unbeaten in his last four starts overall.
Quotable: “This almost seems like a dream right now,” said Pursley. “It’s hard to believe that we’ve won four events in a row, and now this weekend I head to two of my best tracks (Cherokee and Lancaster). I’ve joked with some of my friends that if we win both of these races, I might just call it a year.”
Key notes: The victory was Pursley's first of the season on the Ultimate Series and the second of his career. His previous tour triumph came on Aug. 15, 2015, at Travelers Rest (S.C.) Speedway. ... Heat races were not run; the event was aligned heads-up from the results of time trials. ... Ultimate Series points leader Dennis Franklin came home in the 19th position after experiencing problems.
Winner's sponsors: Pursley's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Twin Oaks Racing, Eagle Manufacturing, Farmers Service Center, Pursley Grading and White Horse Limited.
Who to watch: Hunter Peacock started 11th and finished fifth.
Points chase: Entering the event, Dennis Franklin led the standings (377) over Kenny Collins (348).
