Delbert Smith takes the checkers at the Belleville High Banks.
What won the race: Delbert Smith of Wichita, Kan., survived a late-race restart to capture the 25-lap National Championship Racing Association Late Model feature at the Belleville High Banks. The 55-year-old veteran driver earned $1,000 for his second triumph of 2016 on the Crate Late Model tour.
Key notes: Smith advanced from the third starting spot to grab the lead from Chris Kratzer on lap three and was never headed. ... A caution flag with five laps remaining brought the field back to Smith, but he turned back a brief challenge from sixth-starter Dusty Leonard to claim his 14th career NCRA triumph. ... Smith's previous NCRA win in 2016 came on June 18 at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan., but he actually crossed the finish line second in that race and was handed the win after apparent victor Lyle Shepard's car failed a post-race inspection. ... Rob Day edged out Leonard by a foot at the finish line to claim runner-up money.
