What won the race: Fighting off a late challenge from Kyle Sopaz, Charlie Sandercock of Belleville, Ontario, raced to a $6,000 victory Saturday at Brighton Speedway in the Go Nuclear tour's Great Crate Race. Sandercock took the checkers ahead of Sopaz and Phil Potts in the 65-lapper.
Key notes: Sandercock also won the event in 2015 and joined Dale Caswell (2013-14) as a repeat winner in the event. ... Runner-up Kyle Sopaz led most of the race but Sanderock took command on lap 53. Sopaz briefly went back ahead to lead lap 63, but Sandercock fought back to lead the final two laps. ... In total, more than $20,000 was paid out, including lap money. ... The event was sponsored by Excel Tower Service. ... Brighton hosted its second and final Go Nuclear program, with Sandercock also winning June 25.
