What won the race: Backing up his overall fast time and win in the dash, polesitter David Payne of Murphy, N.C., captured the Schaeffer Oil Iron-Man Series feature at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park. Payne led all 30 laps to take the victory over Skylar Marlar and Shaw Chastain.
Key notes: Payne collected $3,700 for his first-ever Iron-Man triumph: $3,000 for the feature win; $500 for the dash victory; and $200 for his overall fast time during qualifying. ... Lapped traffic hampered Payne enough to allow Marlar to challenge heading to the white flag, but Payne made the right moves through turns one and two to hold on. ... Five caution flags slowed the feature, including a final one on lap 16 when George Mashburn limped into the infield with flames shooting from his car. ... The event, which was postponed twice due to inclement weather, was the lone stop at the Georgia oval in '17 for the Iron-Man series.
On the move: Craig Greer of Cleveland, Tenn., advanced from the 16th starting spot to finish ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Payne's Jay Dickens-powered Capital Race Car is sponsored by Gibson Motorsports, Payne Excavating, Interstate Welding, PPM Racing Products, American Racer Tire, Base Racing Fuel and Schaeffer’s Oil.
