Tommy Surrett heads to his first career MSCCS victory.
What won the race: Tommy Surrett of Little Rock, Ark., won his first Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series race Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway, taking the checkers ahead of early leader Billy Franklin and Michael Arnold.
Key notes: Surrett notched his first touring victory since 2002, when he won five races on Louisiana's SUPR tour. ... Surrett became the sixth MSCCS winner in seven races (Billy Moyer Jr. is the only driver with two victories). ... Surrett's previous feature victory came in weekly action Aug. 27, 2016, in Greenville, Miss. ... Friday's race was the first MSCCS stop at Hattiesburg this season. A series race on March 25 was rained out. .... MSCCS drivers return to Hattiesburg on July 28 and Sept. 8. … Saturday’s series race at Deep South Speedway has been cancelled. Series and track officials are searching for a date to reschedule.
