Cory Hedgecock pocketed $2,500 for his NeSmith Racing Series win at Dixie Speedway.
What won the race: Fast qualifier and polesitter Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., deftly negotiated lapped traffic in the waning stages of the race to wrap up a flag-to-flag victory in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series portion of Saturday's Dixie Doubleheader. Hedgecock beat Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., to the finish by 1.145 seconds to earn a $2,500 payday.
Key notes: This was the first-ever appearance by the NeSmith Late Model Series at famed Dixie Speedway. … Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., has won three of the five NeSmith Dirt Late Model events this season. ... Seventeen cars finished the race, with 12 finishing on the lead lap. ... Brandon Williams of Crossville, Tenn., who entered the race second in series points, retired on lap 27 and was credited with 18th place.
On the move: Ahnna Parkhurst of Evans, Ga., improved 11 spots, starting 22nd and finishing 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Hedgecock’s Rocket Chassis is powered by an Eagle Racing Engine and sponsored by Cushman, Eagle Racing Engines, K&P Used Cars, Transport One, VooDoo Technology, Sweet Trucking Co., and Rebel Diesel Performance.
