R.J. Conley picked up a $5,000 win at Portsmouth Saturday.
What won the race: R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, had to fend off a hard-charging Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., to win his sixth career Fred Dillow Memorial at Portsmouth Raceway Park. Boggs finished second, with Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ky., finishing third. Conley picked up $5,000 for his win.
Quotable: “Halfway through the race I got too comfortable,” said Conley. “With these cars man, you’ve just got to stay up on the wheel. You gotta wrestle it every lap as hard as you can. You just can’t do the Sunday drive thing anymore. I seen Jackie (Boggs) get up there beside me and I’m like holy moly, man I had to get back up on the wheel again.”
Key notes: This was the 23rd annual Fred Dillow Memorial. … The race paid tribute to Dillow, a Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Famer and long-time racer who died in 1990 after a battle with leukemia. … The win was Conley's third at PRP this season. ...
