What won the race: Fifth-starting Don Shaw of Hamm Lake, Minn., outran eighth-starting Ricky Weiss of Headingly, Manitoba, for a $3,000 WISSOTA victory in the opening night of Viking Speedway's Viking Fall Classic.

Key notes: Shaw scored his third WISSOTA-sanctioned special event victory of the season. His last came at Jamestown (N.D.) Speedway on Sept. 23. … Shaw also has three victories on the WISSOTA Shaw Trucking Challenge Series. … Fourth-place finisher John Kaanta was the winner of the May 27 WISSOTA event at Viking, as well as a July 1 unsanctioned show. … The Fall Classic action continues on Saturday night with another $3,000-to-win program.

On the move: John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., charged from the 13th starting spot to run fourth. Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., advanced from the 17th starting position to finish seventh.
