Ross Bailes takes the checkers at Virginia Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., overtook Justin Williams for the lead shortly after the halfway mark and trucked on to a $3,000 victory in Saturday night's 40-lap Fastrak Racing Series Crate Late Model feature at Virginia Motor Speedway. The race's seventh starter beat Logan Roberson to the finish line by 0.976 of a second.
Key notes: Bailes, who won last year's $20,000 Fastrak World Championship at VMS, rebounded from a disappointing outing in the night's headline 60-lap Aaron's King of the Commonwealth Super Late Model event won by Jonathan Davenport. He dropped out on the opening lap due to a broken rocker arm in Billy Hicks's Super Late Model. ... Justin Williams, who overtook Brett Hamm for the lead early in the A-main, retired with mechanical trouble shortly after losing the top spot to Bailes. ... Davis Lipscombe drove Walker Arthur's Crate Late Model to an 11th-place finish. ... The half-mile VMS oval hosts the Fastrak World Championship paying $20,000 to win on Sept. 15-16.
Winner's sponsors: Bailes's Billy Hicks-owned Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from H&H Auto Sales, Bailes Construction, AKW Electrical Contractors and FK Rod Ends.
Points chase: Entering the event, Ben Faircloth (66 points) led the standings over Travis Pennington, Matthew Nance and Ches Chester, who were for second with 64 points.
