Ross Robinson picked up Thursday's Battle of the Bay victory at Georgetown.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter and hometown driver Ross Robinson led all 30 laps for a RUSH Dirt Late Model Series victory at Georgetown Speedway. Fourth-starting Amanda Whaley, the winner's girlfriend, finished second with his best friend Matt Hill third in a Delaware sweep.
Quotable: "If you don't wear your heart on your sleeve and put your heart into this, you might as well not do this," the emotional 27-year-old winner said. "I always catch flack that I'm a big baby. I've done this since I was 7 and there's nothing else I want to do so when we have success it means a lot. I've been trying to win one here at home for God knows how long. I go to dinner a lot with (promoter) Brett (Deyo) and always tell him I'm going to take his money, but he's made a liar out of me until now."
Key notes: Robinson finished 0.395 of a second ahead of Whaley. ... Twenty-one cars finished with 20 completing all 30 circuits. ... Austin Hubbard retired after a lap-12 spin that collected three competitors. Hubbard, who finished second Wednesday at Delaware International, was 24th. ... The tour’s first visit to Georgetown’s half-mile oval was the second race of the four-race Battle of the Bay miniseries that continues Friday at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md. and concludes Saturday at Winchester (Va.) Speedway.
