Nick Hoffman inherited the ALMS victory at Eldora after apparent winner Jason Jameson (12) weighed in light.
What won the race: Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., crossed the finish line second but inherited a $5,000 victory in Saturday night's 25-lap Sunoco American Late Model Series feature at Eldora Speedway after apparent winner Jason Jameson was disqualified for weighing in 4 pounds light at the scales. Polesitter Devin Gilpin finished second in the revised results.
Key notes: Hoffman, who started 10th, benefitted from several late-race caution flags to work his way to second place — the fortuitous position after Jameson's joy at flashing under the checkered flag first turned to despair as his Rattliff Racing machine failed post-race tech. ... Eldora's scale official told DirtonDirt.com photographer Jim DenHamer that Jameson was 4 pounds light. ... Hoffman captured Eldora's season opener for the second straight year. The modified ace's 2017 victory was his first-ever in Dirt Late Model competition. ... Former Dream winner Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., was a surprise entrant. He finished third, gaining one spot during the event.
Winner's sponsors: Hoffman’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Propane Direct, Jones Oil Company, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products and KBC Graphix.
Points chase: Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio was the ALMS champion last year.
