What won the race: Leading all 50 laps, outside front-row starter Chase Edge of Lafayette, Ala., won by a whopping seven seconds at East Alabama, pocketing $2,500 on the NeSmith Chevrolet Series. Hometown driver Terrance Nowell finished second to the former track champion while Larry Harrod, who ran second most of the way, ended up fifth behind Johnny Stokes and Chris Noah.
Quotable: “I knew the top groove was beginning to go away, and when I went into turn one low, I found that if I drove the car straight through the bumps, it led me into some great traction for getting off the corner,” Edge said. “This win is big for us, especially coming so close to home in front of friends and family."
Key notes: Edge found his winnning line amid traffic past the midway point. ... Fast qualifier Jimmy Thomas was three-tenths quicker than anyone in time trials. ... The second of four holiday weekend races. ... Jeff Smith of Rocky Face, Ga., won Thursday at Talladega Short Track.
On the move: Johnny Stokes started 13th and finished third; Josh Adkins came from 17th to seventh.
