Brian Shirley earned $3,000 for his fourth MARS win of the season.
What won the race: Second-starting Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., seized control from polesitter Tanner English on lap three and led the final 38 laps of Saturday’s MARS-sanctioned race at Fayette County Speedway. Shirley notched his second MARS win in a row and fourth of the season as he finished ahead of Dennis Erb Jr. for the second night in a row.
Quotable: “I definitely feel real comfortable up (at the) top (of the track), but for sure I felt like our car was maneuverable,” said Shirley. “When we got to lapped traffic I needed to run around the bottom there and about the last three (laps) I could see Big R telling me we had a pretty good lead so I just rode around the bottom … no need to go up there and do anything stupid.”
Key notes: Shirley earned $3,000 for his fourth MARS victory in seven series events this season and 12th of his career. … Once in the lead, Shirley pulled away from a multi-car battle for the second spot between Shannon Babb, Jason Feger and Erb Jr. … Erb methodically worked the bottom of the track to grab the runner-up spot. … After leading the first two laps, English ran in the top five for much of the race before fading to ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Shirley’s Bob Cullen Racing Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Thomason Express, Cheap Cars, KBX Graphix, Kid’s Castle Learning Center, Skateland South, Jayco Construction, Kim's Autobody, Vallejo and Popejoy.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Tim Manville (827) of Highland, Ill., led Tanner English (823), Dean Carpenter (789), Caleb Ashby (785) and David Seibers (783).
