Craig Parker (48) leads John Cornell (28) en route to victory Saturday at Central Arizona Speedway.
What won the race: Surviving a mid-race scrape with challenger John Cornell, polesitter Craig Parker of El Mirage, Ariz., picked up his second Southwest Dirt Racing Association victory of the season Saturday at Central Arizona Speedway. Parker, who earned $700 for his victory in the Ernie Mincy Tribute, finished a convincing 4.286 seconds ahead of runner up James Laing.
Key notes: Cornell and Parker tangled in turns one and two on lap 13 as second-running Cornell was making a bid for the lead. Cornell, who started fourth, spun and had to go to the rear of the field. … Laing, who led the opening lap from the outside front row, inherited second and held it to the finish. … Laing’s runner-up finish improved his previous best of fifth back on March 24. … The series returns to Central Arizona Speedway on Sept. 22.
On the move: Michael Anderson out of Glendale, Ariz., started eighth and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Parker’s winning No. 48 is sponsored by ATEC Engineering, King Dyno, Klein Engines and EMD Wraps.
