David Payne earned another home-track victory in Brasstown.
What won the race: Repeating his May victory at his home track, David Payne of nearby Murphy, N.C., won Friday's Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series main event at Tri-County Racetrack. Leading all the way from his outside front row starting position, Payne topped Levi Hicks and polesitter Daniel Wilson for a $1,200 victory.
Quotable: “In the feature we knew we needed tighten the car up and make a few changes,” said winner David Payne. “When we did, it just seemed like we hit it. The car was really, really good. I could move around. I didn’t really have to, but I felt like I could when I caught lapped cars.”
Key notes: Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., who has won eight of the tour’s 18 races this season, including seven of the last 11, finished fourth. … After drawing just nine cars when the series visiting Tri-County in May, the car count more than double for the tour’s second visit. … Trevor Parker, David Conley and Preston Crisp failed to start the main event. … Tri-County Racetrack hosted the Blue Ridge tour for the second and final time this season. … The series recently added an Oct. 6 event at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, N.C.
