What won the race: Drew Kennedy of Wartburg, Tenn., slid past Jordon Horton for the lead on lap 24 and raced to his first-ever Volunteer Speedway victory. He earned $3,000 in the Showdown at the Gap, an unsanctioned event for steel-head engine Late Models.
Quotable: “Wow, it’s great to be able and win a big race here at Volunteer Speedway,” winner Drew Kennedy said in victory lane. “I knew I had an awesome race car if we could ever stay green long enough for me to pass some of those cars ahead of me. After we really got to rolling picking positions off and I moved into second place, I contemplated if it was too early in the race to slide (Jordon) Horton. But I got such a good run off that restart I knew I had to try it.”
Key notes: Kennedy won by 0.807 seconds over Barrett Lowe. ... Jason Manley was sent to the tail on the 12th lap after contact that sent Jason Trammell spinning.
Winner's sponsors: Kennedy's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Phantom Race Engine and sponsored by Superior Telecom, Schubert Monument Sales, Speedy Towing & Recovery, Kilby Equipment and GW Towing & Recovery.
Points chase: Jason Cardwell is the track's Limited Late Model champion.
