What won the race: Winning his fourth straight race, Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., won a mid-race duel with Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., to win Saturday at Talladega Short Track. He earned $4,000 in the Southern All Star-sanctioned Michael Head Jr. Memorial and Weaver's 24th series victory ties him with Mike Head for fourth on the all-time series list.
Key notes: Weaver won his previous three races in a new Longhorn Chassis, but he piloted his GRT Race Car outfitted with his spec-engine package. ... Weaver's father, who is battling pancreatic cancer, joined his son in victory lane. ... Former race winner Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., slipped by Weaver just before a lap-18 yellow, but Weaver regained the point on lap 21. ... SAS points leader Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., took second from Johnson on lap 34. ... Tom Maddox of Centre, Ala., got into the wall on the fourth lap to draw the first caution. ... Todd Morrow of East Ridge, Tenn., won the previous two series races at Talladega but wasn't a factor after spinning on an early restart. ... Polesitter Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., lost an engine while running third on the 15th lap and retired. ... The race honored the son of long-time Georgia dirt racer Mike Head who was murdered in Atlanta more than 17 years ago. ...
