Eric Pollard won his first Deery Brothers Summer Series event.
What won the race: Winning his first Deery Brothers Summer Series event, Eric Pollard of Peosta, Iowa, led all 40 laps Wednesday at Fayette County Speedway for a $2,000 victory. Pollard, whose previous best series finish was fourth on June 27 at Benton County Speedway, took the checkers 1.928 seconds ahead Andy Eckrich.
Quotable: “We finished top five in Vinton and it seemed like we got the weight off our shoulders. To win tonight and get that trophy was awesome." Pollard said. “We had watched the B-feature to see what the track was going to do. The bottom seemed like the place to be and we didn’t make a lot of (setup) changes. I thought maybe we’d have to move up but we weren’t going to give up the bottom until we had to.”
Key notes: Polesitter Joel Callahan ran second and challenged Pollard with 10 laps remaining but went high and got out of shape after making contact with John Emerson (driving the No. 19G normally piloted by Richie Gustin). ... Three lap-11 cautions slowed the action for single-car incidents for Travis Smock, Darren Ackerman and Logan Duffy. ... Jill George spun in turn two for lap-17 and lap-33 cautions. ... Ben Seemann was sent to the tail for a lap-11 restart for \"questionable driving.\" ... Deery Brothers Summer Series made its lone 2019 stop at Fayette County. ... The West Union, Iowa, oval hosted the series for the second straight season.
On the move: Andy Eckrich of Iowa City, Iowa, started sixth and finished second; Tyler Bruening of Decorah, Iowa, started eighth and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Pollard's Trak-Star Race Car is sponsored by Precision Transmission, Cedar Ridge Construction, Merfeld Brothers Automotive, RAM Radon and More and CalCo Spray Coatings.
