Rusty Schlenk picked up $4,000 in a touring victory at Hartford.
What won the race: Fifth-row starter Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, overtook Travis Stemler with 12 laps remaining and captured to his eighth career American Ethanol Late Model Tour victory in Saturday’s Fall Special at Hartford Speedway. Winning by 3.302 seconds, Schlenk earned $4,000 in topping Stemler and polesitter Dave Baker.
Quotable: “The car was awesome. We struggled early,” Schlenk said. “We threw a bunch of stuff at it — a bunch of educated guesses, I guess you’d say — before the feature. Thanks to the crew for busting their butts. Man, we worked right up until the time we went on the racetrack, and we hit it perfect."
Key notes: Runner-up Travis Stemler, who started outside the front row, led the first 28 laps. ... Brandon Thirlby, a series winner earlier this season at Hartford, finished fifth. ...
