What won the race: Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., overtook Ross Bailes for the lead on lap three and dominated the remainder of the 40-lap distance to capture Friday night’s Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series-sanctioned Lancaster Lidlifter at Lancaster Motor Speedway. He beat Bailes to the finish line by a commanding margin of 6.094 seconds to earn $6,335, including a $1,335 crowd-funded bonus.
Quotable: “I had to redeem myself from last night,” said Overton, who earned his third win of 2020. “If I was gonna win one this weekend, I figured it was gonna be Tri-County (in Brasstown, N.C., on Thursday). I guess it just knocked me back down to reality a little bit (after finishing fifth). We had to go back to work on our race car and I felt like we had it pretty good tonight.”
Key notes: Overton's third career Carolina Clash win was his first since Nov. 18, 2018, at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. ... Ten caution flags slowed the A-main. … Fourth-starter Logan Roberson saw his hopes dashed on the second attempt to start the feature. He spun into the wall in turns one and two after contact with Brett Hamm after hit by Willie Milliken, whose car nearly rolled over. … Derrick Ramey spun out of fifth between turns one and two on a lap-three restart and finished 21st, but he collected a $1,335 bonus for winning the blind post-race draw that distributed half of the money pledged by dozens of event viewers. … Zack Mitchell was running fourth on a lap-seven restart when he slid high in turn four and out of contention. … Dennis Franklin’s run ended on lap 31 with heavy smoke billowing from his car. … Chris Madden was fourth when he pulled off on lap 34.
