What won the race: From his outside front row starting position, Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., grabbed the lead from polesitter Colton Jackson on the opening lap and never looked back, leading all the way to win the Red Clay Series main event at Ft. Payne Motor Speedway on July 4. Brooks earned $1,000 for his win on the tour for 602 Crate Late Models.
Key notes: It was the tour’s second race and first win on the season for Brooks. … Apparent runner-up Spencer Singleton was disqualified from the event after failing to go straight to post-race tech. … Kenny Hall suffered heavy damage in the second heat and scratched for the rest of the program. … The race was slowed by two cautions, one on the initial start and second when heat winner Jay Cromer spun in turn two. … The race was on the undercard of Fort Payne’s $4,000-to-win Firecracker 50 for Super Late Models, which was won by Joe Noojin of Boaz, Ala.
