What won the race: Claiming the first-ever feature victory of his 14-year career, Tyler Smith of Gibbon, Neb., won Saturday’s Dave Garmann Memorial at I-76 Speedway, earning $1,000 for the event sanctioned by the High Plains Late Model Series. Smith outran heat winners Rob Mayea and Dakota Berry.
Key notes: Saturday’s purse got a $1,500 bonus from Ken Brack’s Buckeye Welding, which helped bump the prize money from $1,000-to-win to $1,250-to-win, while adding money throughout the purse. … After heats, the top three finishers had a fan redraw for their feature starting positions. … It was the second night of the series’ Dave Garmann Tribute, which kicked off Friday at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo., where Rob Mayea of Bend, Ore., was the winner. … Smith is the eighth different winner in 12 High Plains events at I-76. ...
