Kyle Beard talks about his Comp Cams Series victory at Old No. 1 Speedway.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., led all but the first lap of Friday's Cow Patty 50 at Old No. 1 Speedway, earning a $5,000 victory in the first leg of a weekend doubleheader for the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series weekend. Beard scored his sixth series victory at the Harrisburg oval.
Quotable: “My team gave me a great car tonight, and I just had to be smart in traffic. There during the middle stages, my signal guy was showing me that second place was closing in on me, so I started pushing things a bit harder the second half of the race, and we got the win,” Beard said. “This track means a lot to me, and it’s always special to get to race with so many friends and family here.”
Key notes: The track revived a race from years ago with previous winners including Bill Frye, Donnie Barnhart and Carey Conaway. ... Beard beat Hunter Rasdon of Jonesboro, Ark., to the line by 1.643 seconds, marking his 17th career series victory. ... Friday's race was slowed by five caution flags and lasted 32 minutes, with the top 16 finishers successfully completing all 40 laps. ... Comp Cams Series competitors head to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday for another $5,000-to-win event.
On the move: Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., started 19th and finished eighth.
