Tanner Collins picked up Friday's Crate Racin' USA win at Tri-County.
What won the race: Pole-starting Tanner Collins of Frankllin, Ga., led all 40 laps Friday at Tri-County Speedway to capture his second career Crate Racin' USA Series victory. Collins earned $2,500 in taking the checkers 0.983 of a second ahead of Jimmy Thomas in the first of two weekend tour events at the Alabama oval.
Quotable: “Never even laid eyes on the place before this weekend, but I’m liking it pretty good right now,” said Collins.“It’s a track where you run straight off the corner for only a split second, and then you’re turning right back down. It’s a pretty unique track, and it’s round enough that it seems like you’re always turning.”
Key notes: Tanner Collins previously won on the series Oct. 3, 2020, at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala. ... Outside front-row starter Josh Huss retired just after halfway after slipping outside the top 10. ... Nine drivers completed 40 laps. ... Tri-County's series weekend, originally scheduled for May, continues with a $3,000-to-win event Saturday.
On the move: Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., started 13th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Collins drives a Rocket Chassis sponsored by Janney Custom Homes, Nutt Roofing and Siding, Plant Wasted, Driven Import Auto Care, Platinum Towing & Recovery, Parker's Towing, Extreme Auto and Truck Repair and O'Callaghan Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
