Carson Ferguson celebrates his Swainsboro weekend sweep.
What won the race: Regaining the lead with a savvy drive around the inside of Swainsboro’s 3/8-mile oval, 12th-starting Carson Ferguson of Concord, N.C., held off Cody Overton in traffic to win Saturday’s Turkey 100 finale, completing a two-race sweep in the weekend’s Crate Late Model doubleheader. Ferguson earned $7,500 for Saturday’s win.
Key notes: Adding Saturday’s winnings to Friday’s $3,000 triumph, Ferguson banked $10,500 for the weekend, topping the $10,000 weekend he enjoyed after winning the Stars and Stripes 76 at Kentucky’s Mountain Motorsports Park on July 3. … The finale had four leaders. … Ferguson rallied from the sixth row thanks to a charge around the outside. After losing the lead on a restart, he worked the inside groove to regain the top spot. … Overton closed in over the final circuits as Ferguson worked traffic, but finished 0.662 of a second back in the runner-up spot. … Eighteen cars finished the race, with nine of the 25 starters completing all 50 laps. … Saturday’s action included a $3,000-to-win 602 Bandit Series event won by Overton of Evans, Ga.
