Chris Madden (6) edges Jakes Knowles (66) at the checkers.
What won the race: Polesitter Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., nipped Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., by .046 seconds for a $2,000 Chevy Performance Super Late Model Series triumph at East Alabama Motor Speedway, leading every lap in his debut on the series for CT 525-engine Late Models.
Quotable: “Jake got a pretty good run coming off the fourth turn, but I was able to keep my nose in front of him at the checkered flag," Madden said. "This was the first time we’ve run this car and it was good in long runs, but with that late caution flag, I knew Jake was going to be tough on the inside.”
Key notes: Madden has seven victories on the 2014 season. ... Runner-up Jake Knowles, who started third, won the tour's last event at East Alabama on April 12. ... Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., the winner of the last three series events; he finished third.
On the move: Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., started 17th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Madden drove a Barry Wright Race Car sponsored by Crowder Trucking, Century Plastics and Stroble Mini Storage.
