Alex Ferree heads for a $5,000 victory in the Nathan Lauer Memorial.
What won the race: Alex Ferree of Saxonburg, Pa., grabbed the lead from race-long pacesetter Jon Lee on lap 35 and captured Saturday’s 40-lap Zimmer’s United Late Model Series-sanctioned Nathan Lauer Memorial at Marion Center Raceway. Ferree earned the $5,000 checkered flag by 0.788 of a second over Ryan Montgomery, who overtook Lee for second on lap 36.
Key notes: Ferree, who started fourth, recorded his first victory of the 2022 season and the sixth ULMS triumph of his career. ... It was his richest win since a $4,000 unsanctioned score on Sept. 12, 2020, at Hummingbird Speedway in Reynoldsville, Pa. ... Montgomery, driving the Suppa Racing entry, ran third for laps 13-35 before finally following Ferree past Lee, a four-time Marion Center winner this season. ... Lee settled for a fourth-place finish after losing third to 19th-starting Jared Miley on lap 37. ... The 39-minute race was slowed by seven caution flags, with 12 drivers completing 40 laps.
