Bryce Davis reaches victory lane at McKean County.
What won the race: Bryce Davis of Hornell, N.Y., slipped past race-long leader John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., just before the checkers to win the 50-lap Don Hardy Memorial and a RUSH tour-high $3,000 paycheck. The 23-year-old Davis won by a mere 0.073 of a second.
Quotable: "I had no plan at all at the end. I saw the lapped car, Johnny left me a little room, and I hit the hole," said Davis, thanking his crew, sponsors and supporters. "This is awesome. This is the biggest win of my career. "
Key notes: Davis scored his second RUSH Series victory of 2014. His previous triumph also came at McKean County on Aug. 14. ... Runner-up John Waters, who led 49 laps, said his right-rear tire was giving up late on his Dale LeBarron-owned car. \"That's a tough one to swallow, but that's racing and it was fun,\" he said. \"I hope the fans saw a good show. I wouldn't want to lose to anyone but Bryce. We've grown up racing together.\" ... All five heat races ran caution-free. ... Andrews Auto Salvage and Spartan Tool were presenting sponsors.. ... Ward Schell won the non-qualifiers' race.
On the move: Super Late Model standout Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., who was one of the last drivers to sign in, advanced from the 16th starting spot to finish sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Davis drives a GRT Race Car sponsored by Griswold's E.T.R Services, Close Racing Supply, Jody's Hair Design, Lopers Auto Sales and McCourt's Auto Refinishing.
Points chase: With a ninth-place finish, Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., saw the 47-point lead he brought into the race cut into by runner-up John Waters. Only the Oct. 24-25 event at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., remains on the tour's schedule.
